Plant Accounting Manager

Location: Avonmore, PA


Ampco-Pittsburgh Corporation, through its operating subsidiaries, is a leading producer of forged and cast rolls for the worldwide steel and aluminum industries as well as ingot and open die forged products for the oil and gas, aluminum, and plastic extrusion industries. It is also a producer of air and liquid processing equipment, primarily custom-engineered finned tube heat exchange coils, large custom air handling systems and centrifugal pumps. Ampco-Pittsburgh Corporation operates manufacturing facilities in the United States and the United Kingdom, with sales offices in the United States, United Kingdom, and Belgium. Corporate headquarters is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.


Supports financial accounting activities mainly related to two US based operations for the Forged and Engineered Products segment of Ampco-Pittsburgh. Completes month-end financial close, preparation of financial and production reports, and supports ad-hoc analysis requirements of the operations. Monitors and updates Sarbanes-Oxley documentation to ensure continued cross departmental compliance and validity. Willingness to travel between main plant location (Avonmore, Pa) and Ampco-Pittsburgh HQ (Carnegie, PA) on a weekly basis is a must. (Approx. 1-day per week travel to Carnegie, PA)


  • Completes monthly general ledger closing and account reconciliations for both entities
  • Coordinates and prepares monthly/quarterly financial packages for corporate and segment management
  • Prepares monthly operating budget deviation analyses for plant management and conducts meetings to review variances with plant supervisors
  • Supports and handles all Syteline ERP financial maintenance and production issues on a regular basis
  • Prepares, analyzes and distributes management reports related to budgets, inventory and production
  • Monitors the application of production costs to inventories to ensure accuracy
  • Manages execution of perpetual and physical inventories of WIP, finished goods, supplies and raw materials
  • Development of the annual business plan and operating budgets
  • Supports internal and external audit requirements as needed
  • Reviews and updates Sarbanes-Oxley documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Supervise plant staff accountant and assist with day to day issues as they arise
  • Cross train with UES Cost Analyst

  • BS/BA Degree; preferably in Accounting/Finance
  • 5-8 years at minimum finance/accounting experience in a manufacturing environment


(All Knowledge. Skills, and Abilities are required unless noted as “Preferred”)

  • Working knowledge of Syteline ERP and general ledger closing functions.
  • Prior Oracle ERP experience would be a plus, as well.
  • Strong code of business ethics and personal integrity
  • Ability to maintain discretion, tact and poise to work with confidential company information
  • Knowledge of financial principles and practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize projects
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and guidance

  • Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office products to organize and communicate
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
